The opioid epidemic is not a new topic for Seattle residents. As students living in the U-District, it is hard not to notice how present opioids are in our city and within our community. While Seattle has been working for years to try and find a solution to the problem, there still seems to be little agreement on what is the best form of action.

Physics graduate students issue letter demanding greater diversity
On Nov. 1, the academic student employees of the University of Washington physics department presented a letter with a list of demands to the department in response to the lack of women and diversity present in the program.
The letter was fueled by the entering graduate class that only had one women out of 31 students.
Ruby Byrne, a third year graduate student, participated in signing and distributing the letter for signatures. She talked about the effects that come with being in a program that lacks diversity.
