On Nov. 1, the academic student employees of the University of Washington physics department presented a letter with a list of demands to the department in response to the lack of women and diversity present in the program.
The letter was fueled by the entering graduate class that only had one women out of 31 students.
Ruby Byrne, a third year graduate student, participated in signing and distributing the letter for signatures. She talked about the effects that come with being in a program that lacks diversity.
